Founder and Medical Director, Itzamna Medical Center

Dr. Hector Castro is an expert in the fields of Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine. He is Medical Director and Founding partner of Itzamna Medical Center, a modern facility dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of Latinos and all New Yorkers and their families.  Itzamna was among the first private, physician owned organizations to specifically address the many health challenges faced by Latinos when it opened its doors in 2001.   In 1966, Dr. Castro emigrated with his family from Honduras to New York City. He grew up in Hells Kitchen in Manhattan, attended public schools and earned a Bachelors Degree in Biology from Pace University in New York City.

A graduate of Univerisidad Autonoma De Guadalajara School of Medicine, Dr. Castro has more than a decade of experience in private practice. Dr. Castro completed his Internal Medicine residency and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship training at Cabrini Medical Center-New York Medical College.  He went on to complete a Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.  He is a Clinical Instructor of Medicine at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City and Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at New York Medical College, Valhalla, New York.   Dr. Castro is an Attending Physician at the Beth Israel Medical Center, Mount Sinai Medical Center and Cabrini Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Castro also serves as the Medical Director of Student Health Services at the Juilliard School in New York City and is the Medical Director of the Beth Israel Latino Health Institute in New York City.

Dr. Hector Castro is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, American College of Chest Physicians, the American Medical Association and the New York Academy of Science.  Dr. Castro is also the first recipient of the Dr. Charles P. Fulton Pulmonary Fellowship Award in 1992.  This award is given by the American Lung Association- New York Chapter, to help train minority Physicians in Pulmonary Medicine.


Founder, Itzamna Medical Center


George A. Castro, MD is a model for the 21st Century doctor.  He is first and foremost a physician, specializing in all aspects of Internal, Pulmonary, and Critical Care Medicine.  Dr. Castro currently serves as the Associate Program Director of the Latino Health Institute at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City.   The institute is dedicated to improving the health and wellness of Latinos in New York City.  It is a partnership between Beth Israel Medical Center and Itzamna Medical Center.   In addition to helping establish the Latino Health Institute, Dr. Castro serves as the co-director of the Itzamna Medical Center, a multi-disciplinary outpatient medical center he co-founded in 2001.  He also serves as its Clinical Lab Director and Director of its Pulmonary Function and Metabolic Laboratory.

In addition to this work, Dr. Castro continues to see and treat patients in General Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine.  He attends inpatients at the Beth Israel Medical Center and outpatients at Itzamna.  He is also an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York.

Dr. Castro received his Bachelor’s Degree from Pace University in New York and his Medical Degree from the Autonomous University Of Guadalajara in Mexico.  He completed his Internal Medicine residency and a Pulmonary Medicine fellowship at Cabrini Medical Center in New York.   He completed his Critical Care Fellowship at New York’s Mount Sinai Medical Center.   Dr. Castro is fluent in Spanish.  He is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, American College of Chest Physicians, and American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Founder and Executive Administrator, Itzamna Medical Center

Sharon Lee Voytush, RN, MS is a Health Care Administrator and Independent Consultant with extensive experience in both the private and public sectors. Areas of specialization include health care education, health care risk analysis, and organizational development.

Ms. Voytush is a Registered Nurse with over thirty years of experience in health care. She has a B.S in Business from Regis University and a M.S. in Human Resource Management / Organizational Development from Chapman University.   She has published many articles on health care current events and change processes, future focus for health care endeavors, health care cost containment, health care delivery systems and health care standards. Ms.Voytush has participated in numerous seminars and served on advisory committees concerning health care issues including equitable allocation of health care resources, health care policy, performance improvement and ethics in health care.

Ms. Voytush’s health care experience is inclusive of  the arenas of acute care, physician practice management, utilization, managed care, HCFA program administration, community-based services and home health care. She also has administrative experience in the nonprofit sector on local, national and international levels.
